August Charm Square Challenge from Patchwork Sampler Blog

Do you have fabric scraps and stash you are trying to bust? Then collect (or cut) some five-inch squares and join the August Charm Square Challenge!

This month’s challenge came about from my organizing and de-stashing efforts. When the Patchwork Sampler brick-and-mortar shop was open, we cut charm packs every month from 25 new fabrics. One of the stash boxes I opened held dozens of these charm packs. 42 packs to be exact.

This photo shows 1,050 charm squares. That is over 18 yards of fabric in two little 5″ x 6″ stacks! So it is time to ...

Cutting Tumblers from Patchwork Sampler Blog

Yesterday I mentioned that I cut a stack of homespun scraps into tumblers. Tumbler quilts are great stashbusters because you can cut and piece them very quickly. They are also good for showcasing a line of fabric since the pieces are fairly large. Here are a couple of my favorite ways to cut tumblers.

For larger tumblers, I use this template from Missouri Star Quilt Co.

I start with 5″ strips of fabric. You can stack up to four strips. Simply line up the template on the top and bottom of the strips then cut on both the left and ...

Flower Power from From the Strawberry Patch...

I have another tumbler quilt off the rails, this will be a donation quilt.  I used a new (to me) Pantograph (thanks, Santa!) for this scrappy quilt;  "Flower Child". It worked out perfectly for this project and is super easy and FAST! Like my old FAST favorite: Loop de Loop, this one is forward motion all the way, no points or starts and stops until one gets to the edge (or runs out of bobbin

Still Crazy... from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

When pondering the title of this post, a number of familiar songs came to mind, and I (Teri) have a bit of Paul Simon, Heart, Van Morrison, Queen, and Patsy Cline bouncing in my head as I write. (I guess that dates me, doesn't it?!) Kara's Crazy Mittens post last week reminded me how much fun we have playing with stitch combinations when doing a crazy quilt-style project. A couple of months ago, Kara and I found a group of three "Victorian crazy quilts" in an online auction and thought we would bid on the lot. To our ...

Leaving It All On The Table from From the Strawberry Patch...

I have started out the month by finishing up a couple of table toppers for fall. Both of these were done from charm squares. The first, shown left, is called "Split Square" and came straight from Country Threads' book: "Sew Charming". This was the small quilt that I hurriedly pieced together before the all-important block "trim down" stage.
